Food +30, some details
on Feb 23rd - we are talking the future of food, register for the event at http://meetup.com/BLKNY30
From Michael Pollan to molecular gastronomy, food bloggers to food
porn, celebrity chefs to rock star butchers, the world of eating has
changed remarkably in recent years. There’s never been a more exciting
time to be a food-lover, and yet we’re also increasingly concerned
about issues like food safety, sustainability, and health.
What will the food world look like in 30 years? Will traditional
restaurants still be around or we will be eating in a world of pop ups
and food trucks? Will scientists rule the kitchen?
We’ll talk to experts across the industry, including chef Michael
Anthony of Gramercy Tavern, Glenn Roberts, founder of Anson Mills,
marketing whizzes from Rooster Design Group, and writer and Food52
co-founder Amanda Hesser.
After the panel stay for demos by cocktail experts and chefs, tastings
by local producers, and cameos by some of the city’s cult food
vendors.
the Y1 of Y+30
Y1 of Y+30 was great, Y2 is going to be even better. Among many other improvements, we are now in the beginnings of starting a tag-along blog for both re-caps/video/etc. of content from the group events (when the events are explicitly not off the record), and for commentary/contribution/etc of members.
In setting up the blog, I ended up looking backwards a bit on last year… I thought it was worth a quick look and a nod backwards to some hilights events of our first full year of existence: — all the events at http://meetup.com/blkny30

want to help coordinate Y+30?
the Y+30 started as a small event that the folks at drop.io hosted monthly in our office. a few people would show up, we would drink some beer, and take a bit of time to step away from the day to day and think about where we are going.
while the spirit remains the same, the group has grown a lot and now is over 1000 futurists strong… and the speakers and events that are lining up for the next six months are looking truly inspiring…
In short, the format and group seems to have struck a chord, and we want to deliver against a our mandate to stretch ourselves towards a longer term view of the world in which we live.
so, we are looking for a talented/driven/intellectually curious media focused “intern” to help us coordinate the next set of events, and build out the blog, etc. If you are interested, email workon@Y30.it - it should be a blast, and hopefully a really rewarding.
~ sam, and the drop.io team
p.s. if you are in school (and in a film/electronic media/marketing program), we are betting we could structure this as a for credit internship -
